Former NFL Player Sentenced to 16+ Years in $197 Million Medicare Fraud Scheme
A former NFL player has been sentenced to more than 16 years in federal prison for his role in a $197 million scheme that defrauded Medicare and a VA program covering veterans' families. Prosecutors say the operation used overseas call centers to pressure seniors into accepting orthotic braces they neither wanted nor needed — a reminder to guard your Medicare number and never agree to equipment from unsolicited calls.
